Que es agp 4x 8x slot

Hola, bueno mi duda es asi como lo dice el titulo... tengo una Geforce 6200 A-le de 128mb con conector AGP 4x, la cual la quiero instalar en un motherboard que tiene un slot AGP 8x... funcionara? busque en internet y muchos dicen que funciona, otros dicen que se quema el slot.
